New Delhi, February 25: A slight earthquake measuring 4.0 on the richter scale, jolted the country’s northeastern state on Saturday, reports news agency ANI.However, no casualties have been reported so far.
Yesterday, a ‘slight intensity’ earthquake of 4.5 magnitude shook Lower Assam on Sunday, the met office said.The earthquake yesterdaY occurred at 9:35 AM and its epicentre was at Lat 25.6 degree North and Long 90.8 degree East in East Garo Hills in Meghalaya. People in almost the Lower Assam districts felt the jolt and came out in the open.
Officials from the Assam State Disaster Management Authority said there was no report of any damage from any part of the state. The seven northeastern states that include Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur are considered as the sixth major earthquake-prone belt in the world by seismologists.
