Meteorite hits a rice field in Mahadeva village, Bihar, India

A suspected meteorite hit a rice field near Mahadeva village in northern Bihar, India around 14:30 LT on July 22, 2019.
Local farmers working in the field at the time of the event said they saw a fireball-like object coming down from a sky and heard an unusually loud thud as the object hit a field where they were working.
They went searching for the source of the sound and after some time found a 1.5 m (5 feet) deep crater with an object resembling a meteorite inside.

They went searching for the source of the sound and after some time found a 1.5 m (5 feet) deep crater with an object resembling a meteorite inside.
"The villagers extracted the object with some effort and informed government officials who took it into their possession and it was, subsequently, placed in the custody of the district treasury," Madhubani District Magistrate, Shirsat Kapil Ashok said. "It looks like a meteorite," Shirsat said. "It was found in Mahadeva village under Laukahi police station area Monday evening." He added that stone-like object weighs about 13 kg (28 pounds) and has magnetic properties.
"The science and technology department will make a decision regarding further action. The object might be sent to space research organizations like ISRO or any museum," Shirsat said.
