Earthquake in Ecuador yesterday left at least three dead and causes serious damage

THREE people have been killed and at least 47 injured after a 5.7-magnitude earthquake hit Ecuador’s Pacific coast early on Monday morning

After rushing to the incident President Rafael Correa claimed all three victims suffered heart attacks.
National Risk Management Secretary Susana Duenas said: "We regret that a 75-year-old woman suffered a heart attack because of the quake”. Details on the other fatalities have not yet been released.
The quake was recorded off the coast of Atacames in Esmeraldas province and left a number of buildings heavily damaged.
More than 700 families were forced to evacuate their homes as emergency services moved in to deal with the incident.
There were around 15 aftershocks too which caused further damage to the affected resort towns, with the largest measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale.

Production at the Esmeraldas oil refinery was halted to ensure infrastructure at the 110,000-barrel-per-day site was not damaged by the quake.
Ecuador is still recovering after a 7.8-magnitude earthquake devastated the country in April, leaving 670 dead and causing millions of pounds of damage.
