Earthquake hits Himachal Pradesh again: 4.4 magnitude tremors felt in Chamba region

Shimla, Aug 28: A medium intensity earthquake struck Himachal Pradesh again on Sunday. The fresh tremors have been reported a day after two moderate jolts struck the hilly region, causing negligible loss to life and property. The magnitude of the latest earthquake tremors is stated to be 4.4 on richter scale. The earthquake has struck the region of Chamba. The tremors were first felt at 2:49 PM. No major impact has been reported as of yet. However, an alert has been issued in the district. The latest spree of the earthquakes in the hilly areas could be the effect of the major jolt in Myanmar earlier in the week, when a 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck the central region of Mandalay. The latest tremors could be the aftershocks of that quake. Both Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh are part of the earthquake prone belt of India. The two earthquakes on Saturday struck within a span of 20 minutes. The first tremor was reported at 6:46 AM in the morning, followed by another at 7:05 AM. The tremors were epicentered in Kullu district at a depth of 10 km. The magnitude of the earthquake was measured to be 4.2 on the richter scale. Although no casualties were caused, the tremors left the people in a state of shock. Panic-struck, people from a couple of villages in Kullu region vacated their houses and assembled at open places.

  1. The news of three jolts of earthquake in Himachal Pradesh having Kullu as epicenter in early morning of 27 August 2016 has obviously given rise to concern in the State. Since the intensity of the quake was medium , it seems it has reportedly not caused damage to life except damaging or causing cracks to some buildings . Further , on 28 August 2016 , earthquake of medium intensity struck Chamba region. In this connection , readers may like to know this Vedic astrology writer’s alert for taking more care and precaution as far as within human reach, in article “ 2016 - a woeful year for India with slight cheer at the end” published as early as on 18 January 2016 in online magazine thesop.org. Briefly speaking , the alert was that in Summer to August 2016 , Himalayan belt in north of India including H.P. and Chamba region could be jolted by earthquake. Later , on 28 June and after in year 2016 ,on more than one occasion , it was stressed that there is a need to be more careful from quake jolts in HP also during 9 August to 20 September 2016. It seems the alert has been accurate and people of HP showed remarkable alertness in coming out to the open ground promptly.
