5.6R in Romania!

An unusually strong 5.6R earthquake strikes this morning Romania, as shown in the map.
The earthquake, which struck at 1:20 a.m. local time on Wednesday, was centered about 11 kilometers northeast of Nereju in Vrancea County, or 47 kilometers east of Focşani and 140 kilometers northeast of Bucharest. It struck at a depth of about 81 kilometers.

The U.S. Geological Survey put the preliminary magnitude of Wednesday's earthquake at 5.6, while Romania's seismological agency INFP put the magnitude at 5.4. Shaking was felt across a large region and many people said the earthquake was strong enough to wake them up.

There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
The earthquake was pretty long and strong," said a resident in Galați, which is about 117 kilometers from the earthquake's epicenter. Two residents in Bucharest described the quake as two clear jolts that were felt about 20 seconds apart.

Computer models from the U.S. Geological Survey estimated that more than 10.1 million people across the region may have felt the earthquake. "There is a low likelihood of casualties and damage," the USGS said in its assessment.
