Tremors trigger earthquake scare in parts of Tamilnadu

CUDDALORE/VILLUPURAM/ARIYALUR : People spent an uneasy night on the streets after late night tremors triggered an earthquake scare in parts of the district on Saturday. People of the western part of Cuddalore felt mild tremors from 1 am to 1.10 am.
Residents of Mangalampettai, Pennadam, Thittagudi, Veppur, Ramanatham and Sirupakkam, came out of their houses and waited on the streets, as they felt slight tremors twice.  There was no damage to the houses and property. Saroja of Thittagudi said, “I felt a light tremor when I was sleeping in my house. I was confused and afraid that it could be an earthquake. So I took my granddaughter and went out of the house. My son and daughter-in-law came along with me.”
Pandemonium prevailed in Villupuram, Tiruchy, Perambalur and Ariyalur districts as well, as tremors sent residents outside their homes in the dead of the night. No casualty was reported from any of the areas. Geologist R Selvakumar, Assistant Professor with a private University, said that the entire central region is prone to earthquakes and the tremor felt would have been somewhere around 3 on the Richter scale.
