Nepal Tourism Board organises roadshow in Mumbai

Reaffirms the country is a safe destination for tourists

Nepal Tourism Board along with Nepal Airlines Corporation organised roadshow in Mumbai on Tuesday for the travel agents and tour operators. Eight travel agents from Nepal participated in the roadshow to interact with their Indian counterparts. “The primary motive to organise roadshows in India is to promote destination Nepal. India is our biggest source market. Being neighbours, we share our culture with each other. There are no barriers between both countries and thus we have remained great friends for so many years,” said, Ranu Shah, Sr. Officer, Tourism Product & Resource Development, Nepal Tourism Board.

“India is and will always remain our major source market. Nepal is a cultural destination for the Indian tourist. Language is not a barrier for Indians as Hindi is also widely spoken in Nepal. With familiar atmosphere and ease of travel, Indians will enjoy their stay in Nepal. Nepal is safe to travel and no tourist during anytime were harmed so feel free to visit Nepal,” said Shah.

The earthquake in 2015 affected much of the tourist arrivals to Nepal. There was a drastic fall in tourist arrivals last year to Nepal from around the world. Nepal witnessed 75,000 Indian arrivals by air last year. “The natural calamity last year affected the tourism sector of Nepal at large. Many of our tourist sites were destroyed. At present the tourist sites affected by the earthquake are being repaired. The good news for tourists is that these sites are not completely closed for visitors. Nepal stood strong at the time of calamity and is recovering well. On behalf of Nepal government we are actively promoting Destination Nepal in India and are expecting a good increase in tourist arrivals to Nepal this year,” said Shah.

Nepal Airlines operate 11 flights a week from New Delhi to Kathmandu and 3 flights a week from Mumbai and Bengaluru to Kathmanduy. “Our load factor from New Delhi is 124,000. We are planning to introduce two new wide body aircraft to increase our markets from Mumbai and Bengaluru. New Delhi is our important destination and we operate daily flights from Kathmandu to India’s national captial. Mumbai and Bengaluru are growing, but at a slow rate so we are not planning to introduce any new destination to India and want to focus on increasing our passenger counts from Mumbai and Bengaluru,” said, Shailesh Kansakar, Deputy Director, External & Public Affairs, Corporate Department, Nepal Airlines Corporation.

Apart from traditional tourist destinations like Kathmandu, Patan, Bhaktpur, Pashupatinath Temple, etc., Nepal Tourism Board is also showing keen interest in promoting activities like mountain trekking, expedition tours and also the village tourism activities like ‘home stays’. For Indians visa is not mandatory to visit Nepal and currency exchange is also not a problem as Indian currency as well as Indian debit and credit cards are easily accepted all across Nepal.
