3.5 magnitude earthquake rattles parts of northern Oklahoma

PERRY, Oklahoma The U.S. Geological Survey says an earthquake has rattled parts of northern Oklahoma.
Geologists say a 3.5 magnitude temblor was recorded at about 12:21 p.m. Tuesday in Garfield County, about 16 miles west of Perry. The USGS says the earthquake was recorded at a depth of three miles.
No damage or injuries were immediately reported. Geologists say damage is not likely in earthquakes below magnitude 4.0.
The number of magnitude 3.0 or greater earthquakes in Oklahoma has risen from a few dozen in 2012 to more than 900 last year.
Scientists have linked the increase to the underground disposal of wastewater from oil and natural gas production operations in the state.
State regulators have instructed oil and gas producers to reduce volumes at their wastewater disposal wells.
