Some Australian flights take off from Bali

Jetstar is planning to fly home more than 1500 Australian tourists stranded in Bali on Sunday.

However, Virgin Australia has cancelled all flights out of the Indonesian holiday hot spot.

Jetstar has scheduled seven flights from Bali to Australia on Sunday.

But it's one way traffic with all Jetstar flights from Australia to Bali cancelled.

Virgin Australia meanwhile has grounded all flights from Denpasar.

'The latest advice from our team of meteorologists, senior pilots and the Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre is that conditions for flying in the vicinity of Denpasar Airport remain unfavourable and it is unsafe to operate our scheduled services today,' the airline said in a statement on Sunday.

Virgin said it would provide an update on Monday flights due to depart Denpasar in the morning.

Ash from Mt Rinjani, on the island of Lombok, has been blowing toward Denpasar airport for more than a week after the volcano started emitting debris last month.
