Phivolcs: Kanlaon Volcano still in state of unrest

By Shiela Gelera:

After its seismic monitoring network recorded three volcanic earthquakes during the past 24 hours, the Kanlaon Volcano is still in a state of unrest, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said in its bulletin on Friday (November 27).

Phivolcs said the volcano continued to emit white steam plumes, rising to 800 meters high above the summit crater and drifted towards the southwest.

The status of Kanlaon Volcano has remained under alert level 1, or at an abnormal condition, and it is in a period of unrest.

Entry into the 4-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone is still not allowed due to possibilities of sudden and hazardous steam-driven or phreatic eruptions, Phivolcs said.

Flying close to the volcano’s summit is also being prohibited as airborne ash from sudden eruption can be hazardous to aircraft.
